Great Scott!
Tim Scott is a presidential candidate who could lure me back to the Republican Party to caucus.
U.S. Senator Tim Scott, R-S.C., announced in Charleston on Monday that he will run for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. He joins Nikki Haley as the second presidential candidate from South Carolina to run. Scott has been pondering a campaign and has said that when he ran for re-election in 2022 for U.S. Senate that he would not run again for that seat.
He has made several trips to Iowa and I saw him when he was in Des Moines in February.
Scott has impressed me for years. He was in his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives when he was appointed to fill the U.S. Senate seat held by Jim DeMint after resigning to lead the Heritage Foundation.
Before serving in Congress, Scott served on the Charleston City Council and later the South Carolina House of Representatives. After his U.S. Senate appointment, he won re-election in 2016.
So he brings a wealth of experience from the municipal, state, and federal levels.
He is a principled statesman who has been willing to speak truth to power. He has been a leading voice among the Republican Party on race relations, police reform, and criminal justice reform.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet him. He seems to be a down-to-earth guy who loves Jesus. I look forward to hearing more about his vision. I’ve hoped that he would consider running for a number of years, and now that it is official, I’ll say that he is a candidate that could lure me back into the Republican Party to caucus for him.
That’s not an official endorsement (I’m not sure I’ll make one), but he is someone that I will seriously consider supporting.
