Are teachers quitting in droves?
In short, no, but don't let facts get in the way of a good narrative.
I saw a Des Moines Register article by Sarah Kay LeBlanc and Chris Higgins over the weekend entitled "It seems like every Iowa teacher is thinking of quitting. But are they actually leaving?"
Let me give you the short answer to that question.
The whole article is based on an anecdote from the president of the Iowa State Education Association.
"This year, more teachers than ever have called Mike Beranek on the verge of resigning.
'They're tired,' the president of the Iowa State Education Association said, and they're demoralized from what they perceive as attacks from school board members at board meetings and from parents and state legislators.
But the data shows teachers aren't quitting in droves.
